Our foundation exists to raise public awareness about poverty, malnutrition and infections - especially NOMA, a vicious inflammatory disease that attacks malnourished immunocompromised children. Noma occurs in many developing countries but particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. About 40% of sub-Saharan Africans live on less than $1.00 per day.

Children under the age of 5 years constitute about 20% of the population, yet account for 60% of all deaths.

In parts of sub-Saharan Africa, 36% of the children have moderate or severe malnutrition, 40% have stunted growth, and 9% are wasted.

Hunger and malnutrition deplete the children's natural defenses and thereby allow infections and diseases to thrive.
